As we all adjust to the changes that are happening at a rapid pace, we want to thank everyone for their feedback and their patience as we transition to Facebook for our worship time together.
We know that not everyone is familiar with Facebook, so in this tutorial we’ll try to answer some key questions to try to help as best we can. If you need some help, send our church office an e-mail (office@bethany-lcms.org), or give us a call. We are not keeping regular office hours, but we still get our voice mail.
Yes, you can use the webcam following the directions on this page. The trouble is, this was designed for only a dozen people to use at a time. We needed an alternate method of streaming our services so more of our Bethany family (and friends!) can participate. Facebook provides free streaming service. You Tube does not allow a live stream unless you have a certain number of subscribers.
Facebook should let you view anything posted with "public" as the privacy setting whether you have an account or not. To view our live stream, click either the Facebook icon...
or the new link on our homepage among the other Coronavirus updates.
The next screen should look something like this on a computer:
Hopefully, the banner at the bottom will not interfere with watching live or watching the video that is posted afterward.
Another banner might pop up, like this one:
If it does, and if you do not want to create a Facebook account, click the "not now" option.
Scroll down, and you will start to see the public posts for Bethany’s page. Once you scroll past the recommended posts, you should see the most recent posting, which will hopefully be the live stream that you want to view.
At this time, we have a notification on Bethany’s homepage of when the next live stream will be:
To receive a notification from Facebook, first hover the cursor over the button that says "Following" on the top of Bethany's page.
In the dropdown menu that appears, you will see the "Notifications" options. The default is to give you only the highlights from our page. To change the default, click the pen icon to the right. The next menu should look like this:
Toggle the first option ("Standard") to receive all notifications from our page. This should notify you when we go live.
Go to the side menu of our Facebook page (as viewed on a computer screen – this may be different on other devices) and click on "Groups". This should display the one group that our page has. Clicking on the name of the group should send a request to an administrator.
Once you are a member, you can also invite other Facebook friends. If you do, please invite only people you know, to keep our community safe from spamming.
A church staff member will be checking the group each day to accept new group members and to see what people are posting.
