Amber Waves

As our nation celebrates Independence this Forth of July weekend, the appointed Gospel lesson for Sunday contains a prayer to “the Lord of the Harvest.” Here, Jesus means a spiritual harvest, not necessarily the “amber waves of grain” that are celebrated in the hymn, “America, the Beautiful”. Even so, I think we can combine the ideas and investigate how to look at the country we live in as a mission field.
