Our walk with Ruth begins with mourning in the country of Moab and ends with joy in the town of Bethlehem. In between, Ruth's walk with her mother-in-law, Naomi, shows great loyalty and honor. While God is not mentioned as a direct actor in the story, we can see the Divine in "whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable" along with things that are "excellent" and "worthy" of praise (Philippians 4:8). Ruth is an excellent example of how we find God's blessing in our everyday work and relationships.
The last time I preached on the book of Ruth, it was near Thanksgiving time and I commended the book as a guide to count our blessings. That was when our church read through "The Story" together.
