Third Sunday of Easter
April 23, 2023
Text: 1 Peter 1:17-25
Peter inspires Christians to live out their faith even in difficult times in his "Greetings from Babylon" (1 Peter 5:13).
This Sunday, we hear the word "truth" and maybe think about our own truth, meaning those principals we live by that help to guide our lives. Peter gives us the principal of "brotherly love"." This love is grounded on the love that God has shown to us in the ransom paid for our lives. While our love is often pretend, weak, and selfish, God's love is all the things Peter encourages us to be: "sincere", "earnest" and "pure of heart." That is the sort of love that can motivate our "obedience to the truth" and (as Jesus says, elsewhere) that truth will certainly set us free (John 8:31-32).
