When she rose to glean, Boaz instructed his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her.”
The book of Ruth is a wonderful testimony of people caring for one another just as God had instructed them to do. The story takes place during the barley harvest and in chapter two, Ruth is allowed to glean what the harvesters leave so that she can provide for her mother-in-law. From that earthly work, there is some spiritual wisdom if we connect to how we receive spiritual daily bread, today. And once we are fed, spiritually, we are filled with God’s compassion to be merciful and help others just as Boaz did in the days of Ruth.
