"Glory of the Lord" - A prophet in exile away from his homeland saw a vision as he dwelt with his fellow exiles. The glory had departed from the Temple in the city that was his home, and now he... wait a minute! This isn't a Christmas story, is it? Where are the cute animals and lovable, goofy shepherds? An Old Testament prophecy doesn't quite have that “Christmas” thing, does it? Well, it does have one thing – the glory of the Lord returning to His people. That connects to what we hear in John's Gospel on Christmas Day, that God came down to dwell (or “tabernacle”) with His people. John's response is “we have seen His glory!” And now at Christmas and all through the year, we too see His glory and dwell on the mystery of how our God can so humbly come to His people in our worship.
