The image of planting seeds and then bringing in the harvest is one that weaves through all the Biblical feasts observed by God’s people up until the time that Jesus comes. John the Baptist sows seeds of preparation for the harvest of souls to come when Jesus fulfills God’s plan to bring His people back. Following this well worn path through the Old Testament we see the motif of harvest time and the joy that it brings, giving an expectation that the Messiah will bring everlasting joy with His kingdom.
