Welcome to a New Year and a new sermon series! This series is the next installment of a an overall theme I hope to work throughout this school year (2020 - 2021).
Bethany Lutheran will be looking at another part of our DNA. In the previous years there have been sermon series and Sunday School lessons that help us to “INVITE!” and “GROW!”. This year, it is time to “SERVE!” As we read and study the Bible, what does it mean to be served by God and to serve others? How do we see this serving in and around Bethany? And now we have to ask, “How can we keep serving during a global pandemic?”
The last book of Moses, in the last chapter it states simply that “Moses the servant of the Lord died.” The words of that chapter also recall that God through Moses acted in “mighty power and great terror”. But for all the power and terror, there is still just a simple epithet for the great prophet who knew God “face to face” and that is that Moses was the servant of the Lord.
As our church begins a second chapter of “The Servant Series” exploring what it means to serve the Lord, we take a close look at different scenes from the life of Moses to apply lessons from his journey to ours.
