In the Presence of Enemies

In his well known 23rd Psalm, David praises the God who prepares a table in the presence of my enemies.  After David escapes the House of Saul, he is on the run. Whether in Israel or one of the surrounding nations, David has to contend with danger all around him from enemies seen and unseen. What is revealed about the heart of David during this time of his life? Is he still the man after God's own heart?
