When you look at the Rembrandt painting above, it almost looks as if the two characters here are dancing. The bearded person is Jacob who was spending an anxious night before an expected meeting with his twin brother whom he cheated out of a birthright and a blessing before running away. It is in that anxious night that a divine being begins to wrestle with Jacob. And before the night is over, Jacob's name changes and his life takes a decidedly different turn.
This is a sermon about wrestling with God. A walk of faith is not always easy. There may be times when it is very difficult to believe and trust in a loving God. But it is in those moments that we need to hang on to the blessing we have through Jesus Christ.
