Roads to Rome: Damascus
January 11, 2023
In the Bible, we are introduced to Paul (also known as Saul) in the book of Acts and then through the letters he wrote. As both a Roman citizen and a "Hebrew of Hebrews" (Philippians 3:5), he was able to take the Good News about Jesus from city to city along the ancient roads.
Pastor has selected a few of those cities as reprepsentative of the greater regions and cultures that were impacted by the spread of the Gospel - connecting Syria, Jerusalem, southern Asia, Greece and Italy.
The first stop is the city of Damascus where the Apostle Paul was baptized on Straight Street according to Acts 9:10-22. Every mission journey begins with baptism, so this Sunday we'll see the start of Paul's journey when he is introduced to us as Saul. Something like scales fall from his eyes and we understand that this is the first experience of the Good News that the Apostle will take on the Roman roads.
