Do you ever have a memory so strong in your head that it comes with certain smells and sounds as well as images? That is what happened to me when I was looking at the assigned texts for this week. I remembered a flood of sensations when I saw the phrase "a roar of many waters" in
Revelation, chapter one (verse 15). I grew up near
Niagara Falls, so when I read that, I thought of the deafening sound the waters make when you are able to stand right next to rush as the waters go over the edge and crash against the rocks.
God's voice is powerful, greater than the rush of many waters! God's Word is the two edged sword mentioned in the very next verse. But, it can also be a "still, small voice" like the one speaking to Elijah in 1 Kings 19. The Living One will break us down like the water hitting a hard surface, but it can also be an ever flowing river of Life!
