“Thy Kingdom Come” + Acts 1:3

After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.

The Ascension of our Lord marks the end of the forty days when He stayed with His disciples. Luke makes it clear to us that the purpose was to speak about “the kingdom of God.” To understand what that means, we need to trace that phrase through the Gospels and think about what Jesus was sending His disciples to do in the world. Is it a future kingdom? Is it a present kingdom? How does that kingdom come?
